The photo collection of the Africana section of the main library at Makerere University includes an eclectic set of reproduced pictures on, except for one item, black and white negatives. Some of the originals are illustrations from 19th century accounts of explorers, others show more recent scenes. The negatives are stored in small white envelopes that include some information. In some cases the handwriting only consists of a catalogue number. Unfortunately the catalogue itself is not longer available. With other pictures the information is more substantial and added to the pictures. The source of the picture is never mentioned, where we have it within reach we mention it with the given caption that is between quotation marks.
